The seeds for Needle and Hide were planted years ago when I learned to sew at the age of 11. What followed was many years of working with woven and knit cloth in garment sewing, home dec work, and eventually owning and operating KSC Designs, my first design company.

Working with leather, along with waxed canvases and heavier materials, presented me with an exciting new medium with novel and varied challenges, and renewed my interest in creating handwork. Some early trial and error led me to classes with master leatherworkers and extensive hands-on learning and experience.  I am now so pleased to offer my skills and talents in creating custom, one-of-a-kind leatherwork pieces.

My goal from the outset of Needle and Hide was to use 100% US sourced materials, and whenever possible drawing from my fellow community of small businesses. I have experimented with a wide variety of materials and have chosen a select few signature suppliers that are used in each of my pieces:

-All pieces use world famous Horween leather, created near my home in Chicago since 1905.
-Waxed canvas is made by Jill at A. L. Frances Textiles, who hand waxes her canvas using Texas beeswax.
-Hardware is all solid brass from The Buckle Guy
-The natural glue I use has been made in Chicago for decades.

My gallery includes samples of my work to prime your imagination. For custom pieces I can work from your sketches, descriptions, or inspiring images.  I look forward to working with you to create a piece that is exceptionally well-crafted, and all your own.
